(Common to all Action Alternatives)
Redesign existing Special Activity Airspace (SAA) in the Northern Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC)
- Existing SAA (shown in blue) to be expanded to provide larger space available for day-to-day training (outer perimeter shown in red)
- Expand size and lower floor of Yukon and Fox Military Operations Areas (MOAs) to provide low-altitude training down to 500 feet
- Deltas provide connection between Yukon and Fox while preserving commercial access to Fairbanks from east
- Delta 2, 4, and 5 MOAs would provide low altitude connection down to 100 feet
- Address deficiencies with Restricted Areas
- Existing “gaps” in SAA when Restricted Areas aren’t active
- Modify MOAs and Air Traffic Control Assigned Airspace (ATCAAs) associated with R-2211 and R-2202 to fill these gaps
- Establish connection to Proposed West Airspace
- Proposed Fairbanks ATCAA and Viper MOA/ATCAA would establish connection between redesigned North and proposed West SAA
- Proposed Use: Day-to-Day and Major Flying Exercises
